HAMMOND, La. - The Lamar women's tennis team started off strong with the doubles points, but Southeastern Louisiana surged with five singles wins to take the match from the Lady Cardinals 5-2 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex on Sunday in Southland Conference action.

Katya Lapayeva and Carolina Maso defeated Anna Bryukhova and Renee Villarreal 8-5 on court one, and Andrea Ivanonvic and Anna Spengler wrapped up the point for Lamar (3-6, 0-2 Southland Conference) over Lucia Bustamante and Dany Raygadas on line two.

Hanna Elfving and Stephanie Marchena led Natalie Duran and Margaux Kaltenbacher 7-6 before their match was called and went unfinished.

Maso improved her season mark in singles to 4-4 with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Kaltenbacher on court four.

"We were in position to win, but we let it slip one slip away again," said head coach David Wong.

Positions five and six were forced to go to three sets. Marchena forced three sets on six with a 6-4 second set win, but fell to Madina Vorotnikova, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Hanna Elfving jumped out to a set one lead, but Dany Raygadas rebounded and won two and the court five match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Villarreal won the match on court one over Lapayeva, 6-3, 6-0, and Bryukhova downed Spengler, 6-3, 6-1 on line two. Bustamante was victorious line three over Ivanovic, 6-4, 6-3.

The Lady Cards return home for league matches against Nicholls and McNeese State on March 14 and 15, respectively, before opening a four-match road swing.
