Louisiana Classic Results
LAFAYETTE, La. - Federico Gasbarri's second place finish in the 1500m run led the Lamar track and field team that had 10 top five finishers at the Louisiana Classics, hosted by Louisiana-Lafayette, on Saturday at the ULL Track and Soccer Complex.
Gasbarri's 3:51.39 time finished two seconds behind LSU's Blair Henderson in the 1500, and was one of three Cardinals to finish in the top 5. Matt Jackson came finished eight on a mark of 3:51.81 and Alex Dunbar was fifth on a 3:54.51 time.
Seven of the top 12 finishers in the event were Cardinals, Tobias Riker (6th, 3:58.32), Jan Lukas Becker (9th, 4:08.33), Andres Espinosa (11th, 4:07.44) and Tye Norman (12th, 4:08.67).
Jackson and Gasbarri also claimed top 10 inishes in the 800m run. Jackson placed sixth on a 1:54.98 mark and Gasbarri eighth on a 1:55.87 time. TaMar Hicks finished ninth in the event with a 1:56.12 time.
Brendan Langley took fourth place in the 100m dash with a mark of 10.89 and Trey Davis was three slots behind him a 10.79 time. Both joined Thomas Lightfoot and Jared Benford on the 4x100m team to take third with a time of 41.00.
Benford placed sixth in the long jump with a mark of 6.86 meters and Michael Lester finished right behind him in seventh on a 6.78-meter jump. Rounding out the men's top 10 was Blake Johnson and Trey Burton in the 110m hurdles. Johnson placed seventh (15.10) and Burton eighth (15.21).
Erin Brown took fourth place in the women's long jump with a 5.58-meter mark. Deja Philips finished three spots behind on a jump of 5.46 and Carissa Hill in 10th after a 5.25 mark.
Chanissey Fowler finished fifth in the 100m dash, and was one of four Lady Cardinals to place in the top 11. Fowler marked in with a 12.06, 25 seconds ahead of Sydney Wandix's 12.31 time for ninth place. Sarah Shim took 10th on a 12.42 mark and Janay Stanton followed just behind on a 12.48 time and 11th place.
Shim, Wandix and Fowler teamed up with Dominique Taylor to grab fourth in the women's 4x100m relay on a 46.55 time. Taylor was fifth in the 100m hurdles on a 14.57 time, and Brook Wilson was ninth in the 400m hurdles on a 1:08.24 time.
JaLana Owens led a group of three to finish in the top seven of the 400m dash. Owens was fifth on a 58.22 time, Nia Davis was sixth on a 58.45 mark and Bianca Allen was 7th on a 58.75 interval.
Alexandra Soklova finished ninth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:54.27.
The men's and women's teams will participate in the famous Texas Relays, which start on Wednesday and span through Friday.
