NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans' smothering offense from seemingly everywhere surged the Privateers past the Lamar University volleyball team in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-18) Cardinal loss Thursday night at the Human Performance Center in Southland Conference action.
UNO (17-13, 6-7 Southland Conference) had five players with seven or more kills in the match, and four of those had hitting percentage of .304 or higher. As a team, the Privateers had a hitting percentage of .402, which is the highest the Cardinals (13-14, 3-10) have allowed all season. For LU, it is the first time it's record has been under .500 all season.
On the other side of the net, Lamar only hit for a .138 percentage with only 29 kills but 16 attack errors.
Cortney Moore led Lamar in kills with 10, and had a .429 attack percentage with just on error in the match.
Chelsea Grant followed with eight kills and two errors on 15 swings.
Autumn Taylor, who chimed in for a .300 hitting percentage, had five kills, two errors and 10 attacks.
Haley Morton led the Cards with 23 assists, and she tied
Erin Pequeno for the team lead in digs at eight. Morton also added in two kills along with
Murielle Hlavac, and
Carlyn Stella and Pequeno each had one.
Blessing Dunn tied Moore the match-high 10 kills, and Cara Sander and Rondolyn Bryant had nine kills each. Dunn had a .174 hitting percentage, Sander was at .304 and Bryant was at .444 on the night. Keke Irby and Celeste Ramirez had seven kills apiece.
Ramirez led all players with 38 assists and Shaylene Reimer had 20 digs in the match.
The Privateers ran their win streak up to five, while LU saw their skid grow to seven.
The final road match of the 2015 regular season will be Saturday at noon when the Cardinals match up with Southeastern Louisiana. The final two matches of the year will be in McDonald Gym against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist.
