Frisco, Texas – Lamar University junior defensive back
Brendan Langley has been named Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced league officials Monday morning. It marks the first time in Langley's career he has received the honor, and the fourth time this season that a Cardinals player has earned it.
Langley helped change the momentum in Saturday's victory at Incarnate Word. In what had been a defensive battle, Langley gave the Cardinals a 14-7 lead when he picked off a pass at his own 14-yard line and weaved his way through traffic 86 yards for a touchdown. The score not only gave LU the lead, but it was a game-changing moment that ultimately was the deciding factor.
Langley finished the day with a team-high seven tackles, including six solos, to go along with his one pick. He was also credited with three pass breakups during the contest.
After transferring from the University of Georgia, the Marietta, Ga. Native, started his career on the offensive side of the ball. Langley entered the final week of fall camp listed as a starter at receiver before the coaches decided his skills would be better served as a defensive back.
Langley has 18 tackles, including 13 solo stops, during his limited time on the defensive side of the ball. He has also been credited with 11 pass breakups and one tackle for a loss this season.
Langley, and the rest of the Cardinals, will be back in action Saturday when they step on the field for the annual rivalry game against McNeese State. The contest is slated to kick off at 6 p.m. from Provost Umphrey Stadium and will serve as Senior Night for the Red and White. Tickets can be purchased by logging onto
