Verity Ockenden led Lamar with a fourth-place finish

HOUSTON - Verity Ockenden's fourth-place finish helped the Lamar women's cross-country team place fourth at the 39th annual Justin F. Cooper Rice Invitational on Friday.

Ockenden was clocked in 13 minutes,36 seconds over the 3,950-meter course at Rice University. Cali Roper of the host Owls won the race in 13:23.

Lamar freshman Evelyn Chavez was sixth in 13:49.

Rice win the team title in the 14-team event with 27 points, followed by Stephen F. Austin (63), LSU (97) and Lamar (101).

The Lady Cardinals return to action when they compete at the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 20.
