BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar men's and women's cross-country teams make the short jaunt to Houston on Friday to compete at the 39th annual Rice Invitational.
Both Lamar squads got the season off to a strong start with second-place finishes at the Aggie Opener at Texas A&M on Aug. 29.
Last season, the Lamar women placed third at Rice, while the men tied for third. Lamar's Leigh Lattimore won the women's individual title at Rice last fall.
Texas A&M won the women's team crown at Rice last season, while the host Owls won the men's event.
The women's race begins at 6:15 p.m. Friday, with the men's race slated to start at 6:45 p.m at the Rice Intramural Fields. The men's race features four of the top 10 teams in the South Central Region, while the women's race features four of the region's top 15 squads. The Lamar men are ranked third in the region, and have received votes in the latest USTFCCCA Top-25 poll.
