CORPUS CHRISTI - After a nearly four-hour delay due to weather, the Lamar women's tennis team finally played its match with host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday, but unfortunately for the Lady Cardinals, only Anna Spengler could muster a win as they fell 4-1 to the Islanders at Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.

Spengler, a freshman out of Essen, Germany, won 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6 singles, marking her fifth win of the season and her second of the weekend.

After strong showings a day prior vs. Incarnate Word, her fellow freshmen proved less successful as Katya Lapayeva fell 6-1, 6-1 to Celia Rodriguez, and Hanna Elfving lost 6-1, 6-3 to Sandra Burges.

In other singles action, Judit Vives handed Carolina Maso a 6-3, 6-3 defeat at No. 2, and Alicia Porte fell 6-2, 6-0 at line three to Maider Martin.

Dariya Dashutina dropped an opening set 6-4 to Stefania Nicolae at the top spot, but the duo was tied 3-3 in the second set when the match was clinched.

The Lady Cards will return to action on Thursday when Sam Houston State makes the trek to Beaumont.
