ABILENE - With their first conference series victory of the season wrapped up, the Lamar baseball team put an exclamation point on the weekend with a dominating offensive performance en route to a 16-7 victory over Abilene Christian at Crutcher Scott Field on Sunday.

Eight Cardinals recorded a hit in the game and nine scored at least once as LU grabbed an 8-1 lead after two innings and never looked back. It was the second straight weekend that saw the Cards register at least 20 hits in a game, and with the win, the Red and White are now 18-14 on the year with a 5-7 conference mark.

Jake Sutton may have stood out the most in a game that saw seven LU players register multiple hits. The senior was 4-for-6 from the plate with three scores, two steals and a pair of runs batted in. Both Reed Seeley and Jude Vidrine also reached base four times, combining to go 5-for-6 at the plate with seven runs, six RBI and three walks.

After swapping scores in the opening frame, LU put together one of its most impressive outbursts of the season in the second, pushing seven runs across to grab command of the game. Jacoby Middleton led off the frame with a single and a one-out single by Sutton brought him home for what would become the first trickle of the oncoming flood.

Singles from Vidrine and Brandon Provost as well as a Seeley sacrifice bunt scored three more for the Red and White, and Middleton's second at-bat of the inning capped the outburst as the Grand Prairie native hammered a three-run double to center.

Middleton finished 3-for-6 with a pair of scores.

Doubles from Vidrine and Seeley brought two more runs home in the third, and another run-scoring single from Provost made it 11-3 after the first three innings of the game.

LU went on to score four more over the ensuing three frames, outscoring the hosts 5-4 over the final six innings to account for the game's final score.

David Carver got the start on the mound for LU and surrendered three runs over the opening two frames. Hunter Perry proved most effective on the day, tossing four one-run innings to ultimately earn his first win of the season.

LU will continue its road swing on Wednesday with a trip to LSU before returning home to take on New Orleans in another Southland series next weekend.
