Box Score

WACO – The Lamar baseball team grabbed the first lead on Wednesday evening, but a three-run seventh inning for Baylor proved to be all the Bears would need as the Cardinals fell 3-2 at Baylor Ballpark.

Brandon Provost was one of four Cards to record a hit on the night, and he got LU started with a one-run single up the middle to cash in Jacoby Middleton in the fifth. Provost ended the game 1-for-2 with a run batted in, and Middleton was 1-for-4 with a score.

However, things came apart a bit for LU in the seventh as Grayson Porter singled and Matt Menard earned a two-out walk to put the go-ahead run on first. A Brett Doe single to right brought the first score in, and another walk loaded the bases to chase LU reliever Jayson McKinley from the mound.

Brandon Kirkham walked the ensuing two hitters to bring home two more runs for the Bears before he was able to get out of the inning.

McKinley was pegged with the loss, tossing 4.2 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.

The Cards reclaimed a run in the eighth as Provost was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. A Mason Salazar single and an error put Provost on third, and he later scored on a Jude Vidrine groundout. Both Wayne Stanley and Kevin Santana were both also hit by pitches, ultimately loading the bases with two outs, but unfortunately for the Cards, Reed Seeley struck out to end the frame.

Lamar will return to action on Friday with the first of a four-game set against Harvard at Vincent-Beck Stadium. It will mark the Red and White’s final nonconference series of the season.
