BEAUMONT - Katya Lapayeva won a third consecutive match and Dariya Dashutina won her second in three, but unfortunately for the Lamar women's tennis team, that would be it as the Lady Cardinals fell 5-2 to Central Arkansas at Thompson Family Tennis Center on Saturday.

Lapayeva, a freshman out of Belarus, picked up a team-leading ninth singles victory on the year, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Krizia Buck at No 5, and Dashutina came from behind for a 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 decision vs. Simona Horsikyan at the top position.

In other singles action, Kelsey Williams beat Carolina Masó 7-5, 6-3 at line two, and Kristina Horsikyan won 6-3, 6-3 vs. Alicia Porte in the third spot. Cassidy Crawford handed Hanna Elfving a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4, and Anna Spengler fell 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 to Bianca Strukelj at the final position.

In doubles, Masó and Porte lost 8-1 to Kristina Horsikyan and Williams, and the duo of Buck and Ruocco beat Lapayeva and Spengler 8-4.

The Lady Cards will return to action next week with matches at UTSA, Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
