Women's Tennis beats Jackson State

LAFAYETTE, La. &ndash; It was a dominating performance on Saturday evening as the Lamar women&rsquo;s tennis team picked up its first victory of the year with a 4-0 rout of Jackson State at Cajun Courts on the campus of the University of Louisiana.

Alicia Porte got things going at the No. 1 spot for the Lady Cardinals, beating Akshatha Ananth 6-2, 6-1, and Dariya Dashutina was even more impressive, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Angela Condorelli at No. 2.

Nadiya Kulibaba also put together a strong result, making her spring debut with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Rebecca Adewumi in the sixth and final spot. Katya Lapayeva rounded things out for LU with a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Julie Angermann at No. 5.

At the third position, Anna Spengler won the opening set 7-6 and Hanna Elfving won hers 6-0 at the fourth, but neither match finished.

The Lady Cards will return to action in two weeks with matches at New Mexico State and vs. Northern Arizona.
