Lamar trio races at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. &ndash; With a number of Lamar track athletes competing at the Texas Relays on Friday, Cardinal distance runners Matt Johnsen, Sam Stabler and Joe Wade made the trip to another major meet, participating at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Joe Wade was the standout performer on the day, finishing 12th in section three of the 5,000 meter run. The Englishman was running in the race for the first time in his career, and his time of 14:13.37 ranks him as the third-best performer in school history. It&rsquo;s also the best time by a Southland athlete this season.

Sam Stabler also ran in the 5K, ending 21st in section four with a time of 14:44.17.

Matt Johnsen competed in the 10,000 meter run, finishing in 30:16.82 to place 31st in section two.

Lady Card runner Becky Gough also competed on the west coast on Friday, racing in her first career 5K at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival. The Birmingham, England, native came in 14th place at 17:16.06, which currently ranks first in the Southland.

Lamar will return to action next weekend at the Sam Houston State Invitational.
