July 24, 2013

NEW ORLEANS - Joe Wade, winner of both the indoor and outdoor Southland Conference Student-Athlete of the Year awards, put a cap on his final collegiate season on Wednesday as the graduate student took home All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

It marks the second straight season that Wade has taken home such recognition. The Isle of Wight, England, native was one of the most successful track athletes in the history of Lamar, taking home five individual conference titles in four separate events over his three-year career. This past season, Wade earned championships in the indoor mile and outdoor 1,500 meter runs.

Wade ended the outdoor season with the top conference marks in both the 1,500 and 5,000 meter runs as well as the 3,000 meter steeplechase.

Academically, Wade boasted of a perfect 4.0 grade point average while working toward a second master's degree at Lamar.
