BEAUMONT – The Lamar women’s tennis team got back on track on Thursday afternoon with a 5-2 victory over McNeese State at Beaumont’s Municipal Tennis Center.

The middle of the line-up did the most damage for the Lady Cards, picking up victories from lines two through five, to improve to 2-1 in Southland Conference play and 6-7 overall.

McNeese fell to 9-7 and 0-3 vs. SLC competition.

“I feel like that we got off to a little bit of a slow start today, but we finished strong,” head coach David Wong said. “I have to give credit to McNeese State for how they played. We still have some work to do, but I’m happy that we could pick up the win and keep our home winning streak going.”

Dating back to last season, Lamar has now won six consecutive home matches.

Dariya Dashutina and Alicia Porte were the most impressive on the day with Dashutina picking up a 6-2, 6-1 win over Anastasia Surkova at No. 3 and Porte winning 6-4, 6-0 against Andreea Nenu at the fourth spot.

Carolina Masó also picked up a victory with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-3 decision on court two over Lara Pujol, and Alessandra Pennesi rounded out the singles wins for LU, coming back to win 4-6, 6-0, 6-2 against Diana Pirciu at the fifth position.

In other singles action, Carolina Salas fell 6-4, 6-0 to Klaudia Gawlik at the top spot, and Natalia Mayagoitia lost 7-6, 6-2 to Annabelle Peacock at No. 6.

In doubles, Salas and Hélène Czudek won 8-4 at line one and the team of Mayagoitia and Dashutina held on for an 8-6 victory at No. 3.

Porte and Masó fell in an 8-3 decision.

Lamar will return to action next weekend with matches against Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts at Thompson Family Tennis Center.
