Stabler and Wade shine at Husky Invitational

Feb. 9, 2013

SEATTLE, Wash. — Joe Wade finished 23rd and Sam Stabler ended 29th as the Lamar track team competed in the 3,000 meter run at the Husky Invitational at Dempsey Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Washington.

"It was a strong weekend for us," distance coach Darren Gauson said. "Joe and Sam ran very close to their personal records, and Matt should be in the fast section at the conference championships. Anytime you have the second and third guys in the conference, you can't complain, and now that Matt's healthy again, I think we'll be ready."

McNeese State's Alex Bruce-Littlewood edged out Wade by just .12 seconds to lay claim to the Southland Conference's top mark this year in the event with a time of 8:11.00.

Wade finished with a time of 8:11.12, and Stabler wasn't far behind ending at 8:12.34. Matt Johnsen, who was making his 2013 debut after earning cross country All-American honors in the fall, came in 75th place at 8:36.02.

Lamar will return to action on February 22 and 23 when they hit the road for Norman, Okla., to compete at the Southland Indoor Championships.
