Lady Cards compete at SFA

Sept. 28, 2012

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dariya Dashutina picked up a win and combined with Lara Bogdan for another as the Lady Cards tennis program closed out the first day of play on Friday at the SFA Invitational.

“It was an up-and-down day, but overall, I think the girls learned a lot today,” head coach David Wong said. “There were bright spots and not-so-bright spots, but it was a productive first day even if the scores don’t reflect that.”

Dashutina rebounded from an early 6-2, 7-5 loss to Polina Konop of Northwestern State in Flight A to come back and knock off Sam Houston State’s Sheridan Currie in 7-6, 6-2 fashion. The junior will play in the fifth-place match on Saturday against another Bearkat, Imke Jagau.

In doubles, SHSU’s Nadia Dubyanskaya and Tatyana Postnikova fell victim to the Lady Card duo in the first round of Flight A as LU pulled out an 8-6 victory. However, Dasutina and Bogdan would not be as successful later in the day, falling 8-4 to Lara Pujol and Anastasia Surkova of McNeese and 9-7 to Konop and Natalya Krutova of NSU.

In Flight B singles, Bogdan lost in the first round to ULM’s Silvia Turnova 6-1, 6-0 and in the second to Pujol 6-4, 6-4. She will return to action Saturday against Valeria Terentyeva of host Stephen F. Austin.
