Lady Cards run winning streak to four matches

CONWAY, Ark. - The Lamar University women's tennis team ran its winning streak to four matches with a 6-1 Southland Conference victory at Central Arkansas on Saturday.

The Lady Cardinals (10-8 overall, 6-3 Southland) opened the day by sweeping the doubles matches. Lamar followed up by winning five of the six doubles matches to post the convincing victory.

Lamar's Alessandra Pennesi ran her singles winning streak to seven matches with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Sasha Ruocco at No. 5 singles.

Carolina Salas, Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia and Helene Czudek also won singles matches for Lamar. Kristina Horsikyan won at singles for Central Arkansas (7-13, 1-7).

"We are looking stronger every day," Lamar coach David Wong said. "We played very disciplined in most of the matches. I am very proud of the way we competed."

The Lady Cardinals are at Arkansas State for a non-conference match at 9 a.m. Monday.
