SAN ANTONIO - The Lamar University women's tennis team dropped the opening doubles point before rallying for a 4-3 Southland Conference win at UTSA on Saturday.
Alessandra Pennesi improved to 15-5 in singles play for the Lady Cardinals (12-8 overall, 7-3 Southland) with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Irene Gonzalez at No. 5 singles.
Carolina Maso, Natalia Mayagoitia and Helene Czudek also won at singles for Lamar, which extended its winning streak to seven matches. Czudek and Carolina Maso won at No. 3 doubles for Lamar. Stefanie Peana and Isabelle Johnson won at singles for UTSA (8-12, 3-7).
"Give credit to UTSA, they came out fighting for the doubles point," Lamar coach David Wong said. "We played better in singles, but we need to stay focused."
Lamar is at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a Southland Conference match at 11 a.m. Sunday.
