Lady Cards burn Ragin' Cajuns

LAFAYETTE, La. - Carolina Salas and Alessandra Pennesi each notched their 11th singles wins of the season to lead the Lamar University women's tennis team to a 5-2 non-conference win at Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

Salas posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Milou Israel at No. 1 singles, while Pennesi registered a 6-4, 6-2 win over Sandra Ahqvist at No.5 singles.

Natalia Mayagoitia and Helene Czudek also won at singles for the Lady Cardinals (7-8), who swept the doubles competition. Louisiana-Lafayette fell to 4-12 on the season.

"We were very diligent today," Lamar coach David Wong said. "It was a hard-fought match. The Louisiana-Lafayette players fought hard until the end."

The Lady Cardinals host Nicholls in a Southland Conference match at noon Sunday. The Lamar men's team also hosts Nicholls at noon Sunday.
