BEAUMONT, Texas - Saturday was twice as much fun for the Lamar University tennis team, as the Lady Cardinals claimed 7-0 victories over Southeastern Louisiana and Texas-Pan American at the Thompson Family Tennis Center.
Lamar (6-7 overall, 3-3 Southland Conference) opened the day with a conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana before taking a non-conference win over Texas-Pan American.
"I thought we played very sound as a team," Lamar coach David Wong said. "We played our strategy diligently, and the outcomes were in our favor."
Lamar lost just one set in singles play, sweeping the competition from Southeastern Louisiana (7-6, 0-4) and dropping one set against UTPA (2-9).
Lamar's Carolina Salas extended her winning streak at No. 1 singles with a pair of victories. Salas defeated Southeastern Louisiana's Audrey Chelini 6-1, 6-0 and UTPA's Malin Anderson 6-1, 6-2. Salas is 10-3 overall at No. 1 singles, including a 5-1 mark in the Southland Conference.
Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia, Carolina Maso, and Alessandra Pennesi each won twice in singles playon the day for the Lady Cardinals.
Lamar will face Tulane in Lafayette, La., at noon Friday in a non-conference match.
