THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team found the great indoors to its liking as it rolled to a 7-0 Southland Conference victory over Sam Houston State late Saturday night.
The match was moved from the outdoor courts at Sam Houston State to the comfy confines of The Woodlands Tennis Center because of rainy weather. That suited the Lady Cardinals (3-5 overall, 1-2 Southland) just fine, as they earned their first conference win of the season while handing the Bearkats (6-3, 2-1) their first Southland loss.
"Today, the team played to its potential," Lamar coach David Wong said. "They showed me what they are capable of."
Lamar's Carolina Salas registered a 6-3, 6-2 win over Imke Jagau at No. 1 singles, while Alessandra Pennesi ran her individual win streak to six for the Lady Cardinals with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Nadia Dubyanskaya at No. 5 singles.
Lamar returns to action at 2 p.m. Friday when it hosts McNeese State in a conference match at the Thompson Family tennis Center on the Lamar campus.
