FORT WORTH, Texas - Alessandra Pennesi registered the only point for the Lamar University women's tennis team in a 6-1 non-conference loss at 47th-ranked TCU on Sunday.
Pennesi, playing at No. 6 singles, cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win over TCU's Gaby Fernandez.
At No. 1 singles, Lamar's Carolina Salas dropped a hard-fought 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 decision to Olivia Smith, who is ranked 114th in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Federation (ITF).
"We played better today as a team, but TCU was relentless in its execution and refused to lose a point," Lamar coach David Wong said. "We had many opportunities in different positions to rebound back but came up short in committing to the strategy. I am hopeful that we will accomplish this task and when this happens, we will be a tough team to beat."
With the win, TCU improved to 3-0 on the season.
Lamar (0-3) returns to action at noon Feb. 11 with a match at Tyler Junior College.
