BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to visiting North Texas in a non-conference match Saturday.

Lamar's Carolina Salas registered her first victory at No. 1 singles, posting a 7-5, 6-4 win over Valentina Starkova.

Lamar's other point came at No. 2 singles, as Carolina Maso battled to a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 win over Paula Dinula.

"I thought we played better singles today. It was better than (Friday), Lamar coach David Wong said in referring to a 7-0 loss to Rice. At least we were on the court competing."

Lamar returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday at TCU, ranked 51st in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
