MANDEVILLE, La. - The Lamar University women's team ran its winning streak to six matches with a 7-0 victory over host Southeastern Louisiana in a Southland Conference match Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals (15-2 overall, 7-1 SLC) did not lose a set on the day. Kaltrina Harbuzi, Diana Mendez and Alessandra Pennessi all remained unbeaten in conference singles play on the year for Lamar.
Harbuzi posted a 6-2, 7-5 win over Laura Verges at No. 2 singles, Mendez was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Nina Schmied at No. 4 singles, while Pennesi claimed a 6-2, 7-5 triumph over Raissa Dias at No. 5 singles.
Mariaryeni Gutierrez, Natalia Mayagoitia and Helene Czudek also won at singles for Lamar.
Lamar was without the services of No. 3 singles player Alicia Porte because of illness. As a result, the Lady Cards were forced to move players up in the lineup, and the Lady Cards responded.
"I think that shows the depth and maturity of this team," Lamar coach David Wong said. "I really am proud of the way we handled the adversity."
Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 7-10 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
Lamar is at Nicholls for a Southland Conference match at 11 a.m. Sunday.
