BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University women's team wrapped up a successful regular season with a 7-0 win over visiting Central Arkansas in a Southland Conference match at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Lady Cardinals (18-2 overall, 10-1 SLC) wrapped up second place in the conference with the victory as they ran their winning streak to nine matches.
Lamar's trio of seniors all won in singles in their final home match. Mariaryeni Gutierrez was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Simona Horsikyan at No. 1 singles, Kaltrina Harbuzi was a 6-0, 6-0 victor over Lisa Mainz at No. 2 singles, while Diana Mendez posted a 4-6, 6-0, 10-4 triumph over Allison Hartman at No. 5 singles.
"It was great that they could all win on Senior Day," Lamar coach David Wong said. "They have had great careers at Lamar."
Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia and Alessandra Pennesi also won in singles for the Lady Cardinals. Central Arkansas fell to 1-17 overall and 0-11 in the conference.
Lamar is idle until the Southland Conference Tournament that gets under way April 29 at UTSA in San Antonio. Pairings and times will be announced later this week.
"We've been playing well, and we hope to continue that in the tournament," Wong said.
