LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Lamar University women's tennis team rolled to its second win in as many days with a 7-0 victory over host McNeese State in a Southland Conference match Saturday.
Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 11-1 at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ilona Serchenko, while Kaltrina Harbuzi moved to 11-1 at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Ralitsa Pirdopska.
Lamar's Diana Mendez boosted her record to 11-0 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 decision over Kwynn Biggs at No. 5 singles.
Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia and Alessandra Pennesi also won in singles competition for the Lady Cardinals (11-2 overall, 4-1 SLC). McNeese State's record was not available.
"We were very ready to compete today," Lamar coach David Wong said. "After a whole week of hard practices we learned from our mistakes and played very well today."
Lamar returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday with a non-conference match at Louisiana-Lafayette.
