SAN MARCOS, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Southland Conference play thanks to a 7-0 win over host Texas State on Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals (9-1 overall, 3-0 SLC) endured a match that lasted more than five hours.
"We were mentally tough today," Lamar coach David Wong said. "It was a very long day, but we remained focused."
Lamar's Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 10-0 at first singles with a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Jessica Kahts. Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi, who are ranked 47th in the nation as a doubles team, took care of business with an 8-4 decision over Kahts and Melissa Hadad at No. 1 doubles.
Harbuzi, Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia, Alessandra Pennesi and Helene Czudek also won at singles for Lamar.
Texas State dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
The Lady Cardinals will travel to UT Arlington for a conference match at 10 a.m. Sunday.
