Lady Cards slow down Roadrunners

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team wasn't hampered by a rain delay as it rolled to a 7-0 victory over host UTSA in a Southland Conference match Friday.

Lamar (9-8 overall, 4-3 conference) won all six singles matches in straight sets and won the first two doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

The Lady Cardinals continued their dominance at the first two singles positions. Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 16-0 on the season with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Kavya Menon at first singles, while Kaltrina Harbuzi boosted her record to 14-1 by defeating Caroline Dedering 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

UTSA dropped to 4-14 overall and 1-8 in the conference.

Lamar returns to action at 11 a.m. Saturday with a conference match at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
