HUNTSVILLE, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team improved to 11-8 overall with a 6-1 victory over host Sam Houston State in a Southland Conference match Saturday.

Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 18-0 at singles for Lamar with a 7-5, 6-1 decision over Giorgia Pozzan at No. 1 singles. Kaltrina Harbuzzi moved t 16-1 in singles play with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Tatyana Postnikova at No. 2 singles.

"It was a good win for us," Lamar coach David Wong said. "Sam Houston was at a disadvantage because it had just five players, but those players were tough."
