SAN MARCOS, Texas - Andy Mena and Ted Zentek each had an RBI for the Lamar University Cardinals in a 5-2 loss to host Texas State in a Southland Conference baseball game Sunday. The win gave Texas State a sweep of the three-game series.
Lamar (15-9 overall, 2-7 conference) was held to just three hits on the day. The Cardinals took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of the fifth, but Texas State (14-8, 7-2) responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings before taking the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Bret Atwood drove in the winning run with a double. Kyle Kubitza's solo home run capped the scoring.
Lamar starter Eric Harrington (3-1) took the loss, allowing nine hits and five runs, all earned, in 6 2/3 innings. He walked three and struck out one. Jake Henderson pitched 1 1/3 innings of hitless relief for the Cardinals.
Texas State starter Lee Colon (3-1) picked up the win, allowing two hits and two runs over seven innings. He walked five and struck out six. Garret Carruth allowed one hit over 1 2/3 innings of relief for his third save.
