Lady Cards top McNeese State

BEAUMONT, Texas - Mariaryeni Gutierrez remained undefeated in singles competition to lead the Lamar University women's tennis team to a 5-2 victory over visiting McNeese State in a Southland Conference match Friday.

Gutierrez was tied with Ralista Pirdopska at 4-4 in the third set when Pirdopka defaulted.

Manijee Ashrafi, Natalia Mayagoitia and Alessandra Pennesi also won at singles for Lamar (8-5 overall, 3-0 conference).The Lady Cardinals won two of the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.

McNeese State fell to 6-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play.

Lamar returns to action at 11 a.m. Sunday with a non-conference match at North Texas.
