BEAUMONT - Quentin Luquette hit a home run in each game Wednesday afternoon, and Kevin Roebuck and Ted Zentek also homered as Lamar University kept its all-time series record against Texas Southern unblemished with a doubleheader sweep of the Tigers.

Luquette contributed a solo homer, his first of the season, to the Cardinals' 8-3 first-game victory, and he added another solo shot to their 15-9 romp in the nightcap.

Roebuck joined the homer club for the first time this season with a towering one-run drive over the leftfield fence as the Cardinals broke open the first game with a six-run seventh inning.

Zentek's blast, also his first of the season, was a three-run job that snapped a 5-5 deadlock in the third inning of the nightcap.

In improving their series record against TSU to a spotless 20-0 and running their season mark to 14-4, the Cardinals banged out 14 hits on the afternoon with seven going for extra bases.

Junior second baseman Aaron Buchanan went four-for-eight in the twinbill to hike his season batting average to a team-best .385. Luquette, a senior outfielder, went four-for-nine to creep near the .300 mark at .296.

The Cardinals also received a couple of impressive relief performances during the afternoon.

Junior right-hander Zach Boulanger turned in four hitless innings in earning his first win of the season in the opener. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Senior left-hander Brandon Chambers from Silsbee recorded two hitless innings in the nightcap to also go to 1-0 on the season. He logged two strikeouts and also did not walk a batter.

The Cardinals will take a brief break Thursday before opening a three-game Southland Conference series against Central Arkansas on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Vincent-Beck Stadium. Saturday's game will start at 2 p.m., while Sunday's first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
