Lady Cards Edge Arkansas State

JONESBORO, Ark. - Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzi remained undefeated in singles competition to lead the Lamer University women's tennis team to a 4-3 non-conference victory over host Arkansas State on Monday.

Gutierrez moved to 12-0 with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Elne Barnard at first singles, while Harbuzi boosted her mark to 11-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Jenny Herring at second singles.

Natalia Mayagoitia and Alessandra Penessi also won at singles for Lamar (7-5), as te Lady Cardinals needed four singles wins to earn the team victory after dropping the doubles point.

"We fought back and played well," Lamar coach David Wong said. "Kaltrina is playing exceptionally well right now."

Lamar is idle until 2 p.m. March 19, when it hosts McNeese State in a Southland Conference match.
