BEAUMONT, Texas - Mariaryeni Gutierrez and Kaltrina Harbuzzi remained undefeated in singles competition for the Lamar University tennis team this season, but it wasn't enough for the Lady Cardinals in a 5-2 loss to visiting Southern Mississippi on Monday.

Gutierrez improved to 6-0 with a 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Vroni van Berlo at first singles, while Harbuzzi moved to 5-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Stephanie Dellocono at second singles, but Southern Mississippi (2-2) wrapped up the match by winning the other four singles matches.

Lamar (4-2) is at UTEP at 2 p.m. Friday.
