BEAUMONT, Texas - Jenna Plumley scored 17 points and eight assists to lead six players in double figures as the Lamar University women's basketball team rolled to an 85-58 victory over visiting Southeastern Louisiana in the Southland Conference opener for both teams Saturday.
Darika Hill and Brittney Williams had 14 points apiece for Lamar (11-4 overall, 1-0 SLC). Ashley Crawford had 12 points, Ang Green netted 11 points and Kalis Loyd finished with 10 points for the Lady Cardinals, who shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) for the game.
Trashanna Smith had seven blocked shots for the Lady Cardinals, who finished with 11 as a team, one shy of the school record set earlier this season against Huston-Tillotson.
Zevy Ivory led Southeastern Louisiana (6-8, 0-1) with 13 points. Rashima Jenkins had 12 points and Quantae Edwards contributed 10 points for the Lions.
"This is the start of our second season," Plumley said. "These are the games that we know are important."
Lamar returns to action at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13 when it travels to UT-Arlington for a conference game. The next home game for the Lady Cardinals is at 7:05 p.m. Jan. 20 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a conference battle.
