BEAUMONT, Texas - Kalis Loyd and Darika Hill each had a double-double as the Lamar University women's basketball team grabbed sole possession of first place in the West Division of the Southland Conference with a 69-63 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi at the Montagne Center on Wednesday night.
Hill had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Loyd finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Cardinals (14-4 overall, 4-0 conference), who ran their winning streak to four games. It was the third time this season the Lady Cardinals had two players record double-doubles in the same game.
Jenna Plumley had 11 points, five assists and five steals for Lamar, while Trashanna Smith pulled down 11 rebounds. As a team, Lamar had 11 turnovers, the second fewest for the Lady Cardinals this season.
Jade Davis had a game-high 23 points for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-6, 3-1). Shaye Montgomery had 10 assists for the Islanders, who had their three-game winning streak snapped.
With the win, Lamar moved a half-game ahead of idle UTSA for first place in the division, while the Islanders fell a game off the pace.
