BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's tennis team won their fifth straight match Sunday morning, cruising to a 7-0 win over Central Arkansas at the Cardinal Courts.
The Lady Cardinals swept the doubles point with a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 and an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. With the first point of the match in hand, Lamar used the momentum as they went into singles play where they again used a clean sweep to pick up the 7-0 win.
In singles play Lamar picked up four straight set victories as Mariaryeni Gutierrez cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Petra Keilova at No. 1, Carla Nava downed Lisa Mainz 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, Manijee Ashrafi blanked Jordan Short 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and Salina Aranda took out Lindsey Short 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6. In the match at No. 2 singles Maria Gutierrez outlasted Rebecca Miller 6-3, 6-7, 10-1 while Manami Kuroda defeated Allison Hartman 5-7, 6-3, 11-9 at No. 5.
The Lady Cardinals improve to 7-1 in Southland Conference play with the win, while boosting their season record to 12-5.
Lamar will be back in action next Friday when they take on Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La. at 2 p.m.
