Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score
Lamar hit four home runs and scored at least five runs three times in a doubleheader sweep of Texas-Pan American at Vincent-Beck Stadium Tuesday.
Lamar won the first game 9-6 and the second contest 12-5. The Cardinals improved to 19-10 (6-6 SLC) on the season and gained some momentum heading into this weekend's home series with surging Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (11-18, 3-9 SLC). The Islanders have won seven of their last ten, including a series win last weekend at UTSA.
In the first game the Cardinals trailed 6-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth and were down to their final out with a runner on first when Steven Tucker hit his second home run of the game to tie the score at 6-6. Following consecutive pinch-hit singles by Wade Mathis and Cameron Campbell, Jeremiah Sammy hit the second walk-off homer for Lamar this season when he deposited a David DeLeon pitch over the wall in dead centerfield. It was his fourth home run of the season and third in the last three games.
Taylor McInnis (1-0) was the fourth Cardinal pitcher used and earned the win after one inning of work. Tim Tefft (0-2) took the loss after allowing four of the five runs in the ninth.
The second game wasn't as dramatic but wasn't without drama. Lamar led 6-1 following a five run fourth but saw it lead trimmed to 6-5 following a four-run sixth by the Broncs in which Bonham Hough and Garrett Bivone drove in three on back-to-back home runs. But the Cards answered with a six-spot in the bottom half to regain control and push the score to the final margin of 12-5. Quentin Luquette drove in a pair with a triple into the corner in right before Chris Dunkin belted a three-run blast over the batters' eye in center field.
Brian Needham (1-2) picked up his first win in his first start of the year. He struck out six and worked into the sixth. Bronc starter Nathan Molina (1-4) took the loss after surrendering six runs on seven hits through 3.2 innings.
Brian Taylor had five hits on the day, while Dunkin had four hits and drove in four. V.J. Bunner and Tucker each had three hits and combined to score six times and total five RBIs.
Lamar will open the series with A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast on KLVI 560-AM and simulcast on the Internet at LamarCardinals.com.
