Results

DENTON, Texas - After four hours and 45 minutes on the court, The Lamar University women's tennis team dropped a hard fought 4-3 decision Tuesday afternoon to North Texas at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

North Texas began he match by winning the doubles point, and claimed the match as the two teams split the singles play 3-3. The loss drops Lamar to 5-4 on the year, while North Texas improves to 9-5 on the year with the win.

In singles play Mariaryeni Gutierrez blew past the No. 16 player in the region Madura Ranganathan 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1, Manijee Ashrafi took down Amy Joubert 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 and Manami Kuroda defeated Rachel Wilhelm 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5. In two of the three singles losses, the matches went three sets.

After a tough loss on Sunday at UT Arlington, I thought we came out and fought really hard today," head coach David Wong said. "We didn't win, but we played very hard and that showed me a lot. I think this match is really going to help is in the long run."

The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday when they take on the McNeese State Cowgirls in Lake Charles, La. at 10 a.m.
