Box Score
Prairie View scored three runs in the first two innings and held on for a 5-2 win over Lamar at Vincent-Beck Stadium Tuesday night.
Lamar (12-3) managed seven hits and drew seven walks but left nine men on base and hit into three double plays. Seven different Cardinals had one hit apiece with Brent Harris collecting the lone extra-base hit on a two-out double in the seventh that he eventually scored on to cut the deficit to 4-2.
But Prairie View (9-5) added an insurance run in the ninth and got a complete game, 141-pitch outing from Ronald Gardner (2-0) to earn the win. Gardner finished with three strikeouts.
Tyler Link drove in both runs for Lamar and reached base three times on a single, a walk and a fielder's choice grounder.
The Cardinals used seven pitchers in the midweek contest with starter Guillermo Cienfuegos (1-2) taking the loss after allowing three runs on four hits over the first 1.1 innings.
The teams will wrap-up their two-game set on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
