MONROE, La. - Louisiana-Monroe scored eight runs in the first inning to complete a two-game sweep of Lamar with a 10-1 win at Warhawk Field Wednesday afternoon.
ULM (9-4) sent 12 men to the plate and had eight of their 15 hits in the first inning. Jordy Poche (1-0) got the win for the Warhawks after allowing just three hits in five innings. He also walked five and struck out three.
Lamar (9-6) had eight hits and left 11 men on base with two apiece in the second, third and sixth innings.
Starter Jim Niesuchouski (1-1) lasted one-third of an inning and allowed three runs on three hits - including a two-run home run by Kyle Suire - over the first four batters. Suire went 2-for-4 with four RBI and drove in the Warhawks' final two runs in the third and fifth innings.
The Cardinals scored their lone run in the sixth inning when Jeremiah Sammy led off with a pinch-hit single, moved to third on a single by Wade Mathis and scored on a David Moore sacrifice fly. Eight different Cardinals had one hit including Tyler Link who reached base three times with a pair of walks and double.
Lamar will continue on its six-game road trip this weekend when it opens Southland Conference play at Texas Arlington (5-10). Game times Friday through Sunday are 6:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 1 p.m. at Clay Gould Ballpark.
