Brandon McThay scored 25 points and led five starters in double-figures as Lamar cruised past St. Gregory's 101-67 for its 19th-consecutive home victory at the Montagne Center on Monday night.
Lamar improved to 9-3 on the season and concluded the November-December portion of its schedule with its most wins in 25 seasons. The Cardinals also found their stroke from outside, connecting on a season-high 13 3-pointers. They tied their previous high with an 8-of-13 showing in the first half.
Lamar jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the opening 5:01 and put the game out of reach for good a few minutes later with a 15-0 run that extended its margin to 41-11 with 6:34 remaining in the half. Kenny Dawkins had nine of his 21 at the end of the run with three fast-break layups and three free throws.
The Cardinals led by as many as 45 with 9:05 to play.
Dawkins handed out a game-high nine assists and recorded four steals, while Jay Brown had his third double-double of the year with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman Anthony Miles netted a career-high with 16 points, five assists and two steals. Ashton Hall posted his second double-figure scoring contest with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting.
All 10 players who dressed scored and played at least five minutes.
LU shot 49 percent from the floor and was nearly perfect from the foul line, making 16-of-18 for 89 percent. The Cards never trailed and were the beneficiaries of 23 Cavalier turnovers, which LU fashioned into 27 points.
Lamar grabbed a season-high 50 rebounds, marking its most since securing 58 in the 2007-08 season opener against LeTourneau.
Josh Coulter led St. Gregory's with 18 points. Jade Carter had 11 points and nine rebounds.
Lamar will open the new year at Memphis on Saturday. Tip-off at the FedEx Forum is set for 7 p.m. Central time.
