Results

LUFKIN, Texas - The Lamar University women's tennis team closed out the 2007 regular season with a 6-1 win over the Ladyjacks of Stephen F. Austin at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas on Tuesday.

Due to the threat of rain, the match started with singles play, and the Lady Cards wasted little time in sealing the victory.

Kaltrina Harbuzi posted a6-1, 6-2 win over Roxana Enica at No. 1, Maria Gutierrez won 6-2, 6-3 over Laura Harrison at No. 2 and Pamela Martinez defeated Gabriela Gadeva 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3. Manijee Ashrafi collected a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Lauren Nowicki and Manami Kuroda closed out the singles play with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Mary Harrison at No. 5. The Ladyjacks did pick up a win at No. 6 singles as the Lady Cards defaulted due to a lack of players.

In doubles play the Lady Cards grabbed the point as Martinez and Ashrafi took down Enica and Laura Harrison 8-4, while Gutierrez and Harbuzi posted an 8-4 win over Gadeva and Tatiana Smolnikova.

The win boost the Lady Cards record to 13-9 overall and 8-3 in Southland Conference play. Next up for LU will be the Southland Conference Tournament in San Antonio, Texas, with play set to begin on Friday.
