Results

LAKE CHARLES, La. - The Lamar University women's tennis team improved to 3-0 in Southland Conference play on Friday, taking down the McNeese State Cowgirls 6-1 in Lake Charles, La.

The Lady Cardinals started the day by winning the doubles point as Pamela Martinez and Manijee Ashrafi defeated Urska Dobersek and Victoria Martinez 8-5 at No. 1, while Kaltrina Harbuzi and Maria Gutierrez swept Petra Gudelj and Inga Efimenko 8-0 at No. 2. The doubles match at No. 3 was not played.

In singles play the Lady Cards swept the five matches that were played, while the Cowgirls picked up a win at No. 6 due to LU's lack pf players. Harbuzi breezed past Dobersek 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Gutierrez won in the No. 2 spot 6-3, 6-2 over Romana Hueller and Martinez posted a 3-6, 7-8 (7-5), 10-4 win over Gudelj at No. 3. Ashrafi won at No. 4 over Victoria Martinez 6-1, 6-1 and Kuroda was a 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 winner over Efimenko at No. 5.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday morning, when they play host to Arkansas State at 11:00 at the Cardinal Courts.
