LAFAYETTE, La. - The Lamar University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Louisiana Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns last Thursday in Lafayette, La.

The Ragin Cajuns started the match by winning the doubles point as Tammy Day and Chanell Meijer took down Kaltrina Harbuzi and Tanya Roberts 8-4 at No. 1, while Myrthe Molenveld and Clemence Remy handed Manijee Ashrafi and Pamela Martinez an 8-6 loss at No. 2. The Lady Cardinals did however pick up a victory at No. 3 doubles, as Manami Kuroda and Maria Gutierrez defeated Angela Dangond and Kimmie Lyles 8-5.

The Lady Cardinals were unable to get things going in singles play, as ULL took five of the six matches. Lamar's lone point in the contest came from the No. 6 spot, as Kuroda took down Lyles 6-4, 1-6, 11-9.

Day took down Harbuzi 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1, Meijer posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roberts at No. 2 and Molenveld took down Andrea Martinez 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3. At No. 4 singles Martelli took down Gutierrez 6-3-, 6-3 and Lafayette closed out the singles competition with Dangond handing Pamela Martinez a 4-6, 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Friday at 5 p.m. when they take on SMU in Tulsa Okla.
