BEAUMONT - Sophomore Collin Delome went 5-for-5 with three runs scored as Lamar University closed out Louisiana-Monroe via the 10-run rule in a 12-2 win Friday night in Southland Conference baseball action at Vincent-Beck Stadium.
Lamar improved to 29-12 overall and 16-3 in SLC play. The Cardinals have won 13 of their last 14 games in SLC play. UL-Monroe dropped to 11-26 overall and 6-8 in SLC play. The three-game series continues today with a 2 p.m. game and concludes Sunday at 1 p.m.
DeLome set a new career-high with five hits, becoming the 15th player in school history to post a 5-hit game. The last to achieve the feat was Jordan Foster against Texas-Arlington on May 17, 2003. The school record for hits in a game is six by Bobby Bradshaw. A native of Buna, DeLome had two doubles and three singles in the game.
Lamar pounded out 17 hits in the game, which was the 25th time this season that the Cardinals have recorded 10 or more hits in a game. Lamar also recorded a double-digit run total for the 10th time this season. The Cardinals had three doubles and 14 singles in the game.
With the scored tied at 2-2, Lamar broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Jo Jo Haney led off the inning with a walk and Erik Kanaby drew a one out walk. DeLome reached on an infield single to load the bases with two outs. Dan Hernandez, who was 2-for-3 with three RBI, delivered a 2-run single to left field. DeLome scored on wild pitch and Will Henderson singled to center to drive in Hernandez and put Lamar up 6-2.
The Cardinals added a single run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take a commanding 10-2 lead. Haney reached on a two-base throwing error by third baseman Clark LaBorde and scored on Colt Crawford's single to center field in the fifth inning.
DeLome led off the sixth inning with double that one-hopped the wall in left center field. Henderson, who was 3-for-5 with two RBI, singled to left field to drive in DeLome. Henderson moved to third on consecutive wild pitches from reliever D.J. Fortenberry and scored on C.J. Ebarb's RBI ground out. Matt Lambeth, who was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, double down the left field line and scored on a wild pitch by reliever Ladd Hall.
Lamar closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Lambeth, Crawford and Kanaby each walked to load the bases. Lambeth scored on a wild pitch by reliever Mark White and Ebarb drove in Crawford with a sacrifice fly to right field that put Lamar up 12-2. That ended the game due to the conference's 10-run rule after seven innings.

ULM tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the third inning. Ben Soignier reached on an error by Haney at third base and scored on Justin LaBorde's RBI single to right field.
Lamar answered with a run in the home half of the third inning. Ryan Baker led off the inning with a single and scored on Ebarb's RBI fielder's choice ground out. The Indians tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. Steve Lawler walked, stole second and scored on an error by Hernandez at first base. Soignier reached on a close play at first base and Lawler was able to score when the ball trickled out of Hernandez' glove down the right field line.
Sophomore Scott Meyer (4-0) pitched three and two-third innings of relief to pick up the win for the Cardinals. He allowed no runs on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Steve Macfarland started and pitched the first 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on four hits with six walks and two strikeouts. Chuckie Platt pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
James Stephens (5-2) started and took the loss for the Indians, allowing six runs on 10 hits with two walks and one strikeout. ULM pitchers issued five walks and had six wild pitches.
Senior William Delage, who is 8-2 with a 2.45 ERA, is Lamar's probable starter today. Kyle Smith, who is 0-1 with an 8.72 ERA, is expected to start for ULM.
