Results

BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's tennis team improve to 4-1 in Southland Conference play Saturday, with a 5-2 win over The University of Texas-San Antonio at the Cardinal Courts.

The Lady Cardinals started the match by sweeping the doubles point. Andrea Martinez and Tara Shelander defeated Veronika Barbara Mooney Tanya Hasking 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, Tanya Roberts and Pamela Martinez took out Karen Scida and Sandra Kukla 9-8 at No. 2 and Kendall Gibbs and Maria Guiterrez beat Ana Paula Soto Anton and Nathalie Wallin 8-3 at No. 3.

In singles competition Andrea Martinez knocked off Wallin 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Tanya Roberts defeated Karen Scida 6-4, 6-7 (0-4), 6-3 at No. 3, Pamela Martinez downed Drabkova 7-6 (4-0), 3-6, 6-2, and Maria Gutierrez took out Mooney 7-5, 6-1 at No. 5.

The Roadrunners collected wins at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, with Kukla knocking off Shelander 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 and Paula Soto Anton defeating Gibbs 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.

The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Sunday morning at 10 when they take on the Texas State University at the Cardinal Courts.
