BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's tennis team dropped their first Southland Conference decision Sunday afternoon, falling to Southeastern Louisiana 5-2 at the Cardinal. The loss drops Lamar to 3-1 in SLC play, and gives them a 7-4 record overall.
Southeastern started the match by taking the doubles point with Emilija Arnaudovska and Iva Velkovska defeated Tanya Roberts and Pamela Martinez 8-6 at No. 2 while Bonnie Phillips and Jana Simurkova downed Maria Gutierrez and Kendall Gibbs 8-6 at No. 3. Andrea Martinez and Tara Shelander collected the only win for Lamar in doubles play, knocking out Breda Kovac and Nina Knavs 8-3 at No. 1.
In singles competition Andrea Martinez knocked off Kovac 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles and Pamela Martinez downed Simurkova) 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (7-0) for Lamar's only wins in singles play.
In the other singles action Arnaudovska defeated. Shelander 6-3, 6-2, Velkovska downed Roberts 6-1, 6-0, Knavs knocked off. Gutierrez 6-4, 7-6 (5-0) and Phillips defeated Gibbs 6-2, 6-1.
The Lady Cardinals, along with the men's team will be in action again Wednesday afternoon when they take on the Emporia State University at 2 p.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
