BEAUMONT - The Lamar University women's tennis team improve to 3-0 in Southland Conference play Saturday, with a 6-1 win over the Nicholls State Lady Colonels at the Cardinal Courts.
The Lady Cardinals started the match by taking the doubles point when Andrea Martinez and Tara Shelander defeated Veronika Ramirez and Lilian Leermakers 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Kendall Gibbs and Maria Guiterrez took down Iusitina Gasca-Silav and Dorian Robichaux 8-3. The Lady Colonels did not field a team for No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition Andrea Martinez knocked off Ramirez 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Pamela Martinez downed Leermakers 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles, Kendal Gibbs knocked out Neo Malope 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and Maria Gutierrez took out Robichaux 6-2, 6-1.
The Lady Colonels lone win came at No. 2 singles, with Silav posting a 5-7, 7-6, 1-0 win over Tara Shelander.
The Lady Cardinals will be in action again Sunday afternoon when they take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions at 12 p.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
