BEAUMONT - The Lamar Lady Cardinal tennis team bounced back from a tough 4-3 loss on Tuesday afternoon, taking their frustrations out on the Centenary Ladies 7-0 at the Cardinal Courts Friday afternoon.
The Lady Cards started the afternoon by blanking Centenary in doubles play, allowing the Ladies to win just one game in the process. The No.1 doubles combination of Andrea Martinez and Tara Shelander too down Heather Kelley and Christine Majchrowicz 8-1, while Tanya Roberts and Pamela Martinez shut out Courtney Meyers and Kristina Collins 8-0 in No.2 doubles. Lamar's tandem of Kendall Gibbs and Maria Gutierrez did not play, as Centenary defaulted in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play the Lady Cardinals continued their hot play, blanking the Ladies in the three, four and five spots. Roberts posted a 6-0, 6-0 win over Meyers, Pamela Martinez won 6-0, 6-0 over Collins, and Gutierrez swept Jennifer Majchrowicz 6-0, 6-0.
In the No. 1 spot Andrea Martinez posted a 6-1, 6-1 win over Kelley, while Shelander too down Christine Majchrowicz 6-2, 6-2 in the number two spot. Kendall Gibbs was slated to play in the six hole, but the Ladies defaulted.
Lamar will be in action again Saturday morning when they take on Alcorn State at 9 a.m. at the Cardinal Courts.
